Serico History

Serico, des passionnés de l’art industriel

In 1967, Serico was born as a small sticker-making project in Mr. Jacques Couture’s kitchen, while he was working as a printer at Avery Dennison in Drummondville. Faced with growing demand, Mr. Couture quit his job and in 1973, Serico Décalques was incorporated.

The first premises were located in an abandoned house on rue St-Damase, at the corner of 8th Avenue. A few months later, the company moved to a garage on Boulevard Allard, with Affiche Drummond and M. Poisson as neighbours, where it remained until 2004. A second facility was opened on Boulevard St-Joseph.

Over the years, Serico Décalques Inc. made its mark with a range of self-adhesive products and flexible keyboard membranes under the SENSI-TOUCH brand. In the 1980s, as the cycling industry was growing, the plant stood out for its graphic design services and ability to produce high-quality stickers for bicycles, counting among its customers Bicyclette Universelle (Universal Bicycle) of Drummondville.

In June 1984, a 22-year-old father and graphic design student was given the opportunity to join the team as a summer employee. His first steps in screen printing began in a small Surf Shop on the Maine coast, where he printed skim boards and T-shirts before studying screen printing as part of his graphic design studies.

It was then that Guy Moisan fell completely under the spell of this printing technique at Serico Décalques, so much so that he left his studies to join the team where he still works today. Passionate about surfing, skateboarding and the “California Lifestyle” of the ’80s, this new designer’s graphic style conquered the bicycle industry with the arrival of the first BMX and mountain bikes. The company forged a unique reputation for its graphic design service, contributing to the success of various bike brands and ranges.

In 1986, following a job offer from Groupe Procycle and negotiations with Mr. Couture, Guy Moisan became a minority shareholder, devoting himself entirely to the company’s success. The term “decals” in the company’s name limited the creative spirit and development of the range of products and services for the future. It was therefore decided to rename the company simply Serico Inc. Serico for «Sérigraphie et compagnie».

Over the years, Serico has developed and perfected numerous printing techniques on different materials. The company has continued to develop its graphic design department, rapidly acquiring a worldwide reputation for certain products and markets. Direct contact with the manufacturing process of each project gave the design team a keen interest in industrial design.

In 2004, faced with the threat of China in his market niches, Mr. Couture decided to sell the company. After several unsuccessful attempts, Guy Moisan, with the participation of Accès Capital, decided to acquire all the shares. Together with his wife Isabelle, they became the sole owners of the company.

Over the years, creativity and passion spread throughout the team, always stimulated by new applications of their know-how. As a result, the company has forged a unique reputation for finding printed solutions for diverse projects and opportunities. Today, Serico offers a range of printed, thermoformed and assembly products that leave the industry amazed at its creativity.
